Judy Hoffstein    

Judy Hoffstein works with mid-level and senior management to enhance their ability to lead and manage individuals and teams, and to further develop their careers.  Her approach to coaching is adapted to each unique situation, and her style is open and supportive – although she can deliver difficult messages when needed.

With over 20 years of experience, Judy has held a diverse set of business and senior leadership roles which add to the value of her executive coaching practice.Her most recent corporate position was Head of Marketing for Citi’s Global Direct Banking group. Prior to that, she was Senior Vice President and General Manager of the American Express U.S. Charge Card business, where she focused on revitalizing the company’s flagship Charge Card business.

During her years at American Express, Judy had the opportunity to work in – and with – a broad range of business units and functions, including Direct Marketing, Telemarketing, Internet, Operations, Product Development, Technology, and Merchant Services (Sales).  Judy also spent several years as SVP of Human Resources Development at American Express. In that role she ran Global Training; Organization Effectiveness; and Diversity. Her accomplishments in HR include launching a senior executive mentoring program; a core global leadership training curriculum; and winning the Catalyst award for American Express.

Judy has also worked at Home Box Office, Newsweek, and Charter Publishing Company. She has more recently owned a small focus group facility and acted as an independent marketing consultant.

Throughout her business career, Judy’s successes relied heavily on her leadership and influence skills, as she built and managed diverse teams in a variety of functions. In her corporate roles she has worked globally, with both start up and mature functions, and with all levels of leadership. She has directly managed large and highly matrixed teams, and has also worked in smaller entrepreneurial environments. She has taught leadership training, and mentored numerous direct reports and other colleagues. As an agent of change, she has given people renewed energy – and ability – to accomplish their goals. Judy’s unusually wide-ranging senior level experience allows her to build a true partnership with her clients, able to consult on business strategy in addition to leadership and team issues.

Currently located in Northern New Jersey, Judy holds a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Joel Patenaude

Joel Patenaude works with senior management of fast-growing and medium-sized firms both as an extension of their staff, particularly on business development and technical writing, and as a senior advisor, to share work and shape strategy.  Recent projects have included application and presentation writing, business development (lead generation  and deal-making), marketing, sales, coaching, strategy and leadership advice, fundraising  and competitive analyses. 



 

As an entrepreneur, Joel develops new business concepts, identifies potential partners and moves on to operations.   With over 20 years of experience, he has held a diverse set of business roles and has been often described as reliable, thoughtful and easy-to-work-with.   

 

Joel has founded three diverse businesses, in processed foods, in garden product importing, and in real estate development.  Greenworks on Grove, LLC redeveloped a contaminated gas station into a Gold Level LEED-certified (i.e. green) retail building and now manages the New Jersey property.  World Pottery was a popular destination retail and wholesale warehouse with a category-leading e-commerce website.  Judy & Joel’s Kitchen manufactured nationally-distributed frozen organic desserts, conceived by Patenaude and his wife, Judy Hoffstein.    

 

Joel served as Director of Economic Development at the St. Nicholas Neighborhood Preservation Corporation, one of New York City’s largest and most successful community development corporations.  This role included running an industrial development corporation and accomplishments included unique export development and workplace safety programs for local manufacturers.

 

In 1984 Joel worked for the Ministry of Local Government, Kenya, as a Project Development Planner.  This Africa experience was contagious.  World Pottery allowed Joel to build business relationships in Africa; the business imported containerloads of goods from Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, South Africa and Morocco. Patenaude's present clients include a payment business focused on west Africa.  On social media he has been an officer with VC4Africa and tweets about mobile money in Africa at http://twitter.com/#!/J2Partners

  

Joel Patenaude is based in Montclair, NJ and holds a Bachelor’s degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Urban Planning) and a Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Regional Planning: Economic Development/Real Estate Development).
